1862 Founding of Munksjö Pappersbruk in Jönköping
1917 Acquisition of Aspa Bruk
1919 Stock market listing
1928 Aspa Bruk starts kraft pulp plant
1954 Paper Machine 13 at Jönköping is acquired, which becomes Munksjö’s largest specialty paper machine
1974 Aspa Bruk first in the world to install oxygen bleaching.
1981–1983 Munksjö undergoes decontamination and reconstruction, in which Munksjö is transformed from a forest company in a financial crisis into one of the world’s largest specialty paper companies with a strong financial position
1982 Acquisition of the paper mill Billingfors Pappersbruk
1989 Aspa Bruk first in the world to offer entirely chlorine-free kraft pulp
1991 Trelleborg and Custodia buy out Munksjö from the Stockholm Stock Exchange
1993 New listing. Munksjö now consists of the four business areas: Paper, Pulp, Hygiene and Packaging
1996 Acquisition of decor companies in Germany, Spain and the US, from PWA
1998 Acquisition of decor company in Italy from the Italy-based Binda Group
2002 Buyout of Munksjö from the Stockholm Stock Exchange by the Jefferson Smurfit Group
2004 Acquisition of Munksjö by Swedish venture capital company EQT’s Fund No. III from Smurfit. In conjunction with the acquisition, the Hygiene business area is divested to SCA, and the Packaging business area is retained by the Smurfit Group.
2005 Formation of the new Munksjö Group.
2006 Startup of operations in China.
